According to market research firm Zenith Global, “India would spend ₹ 91,742 crores by 2021 only on advertising.” India is an emerging market for LED Display with a 16% growth rate on a yearly basis. The total digital display participation in the Indian OOH advertising market is only 3% to date.
More and more agencies are replacing their adverting properties from static to dynamic LED displays because as of now motion content is more appealing and attractive in comparison to static ads. As an advertiser, you must be ready for this battle with updated technologies and more advertising properties. If you want to beat your competitors in business and want to grab more market cap, it’s possible only with DOOH.
If you are planning to buy an LED display for an advertising purpose, here are a few points you need to add to your checklist.
Still, confused? – As a leading LED manufacturer company in India, many times we feel that few of our customers are a little confused about the LED wall, and they don’t know their requirement.
Here’s an in-detail checklist to understand the LED video wall and its process better.
First, the most important thing for LED configuration is the environment where you are going to install your display. If it’s an indoor environment, then it’s resolutions and pixel pitches are totally different from the outdoor display. Indoor LED displays require high resolution and smaller pixel pitches because of viewing distance. In comparison to indoor LED displays, outdoor LEDs have a lower resolution as there is a longer viewing distance. A very suitable example is the Outdoor LED Stadium display. Anyone can have a clear view from any corner of the stadium due to the suitable resolution and pixel pitch.
To dig further into pixel pitch and resolution, the LED display is categorized into two categories – SMD (Surface-Mount-Diode) and the second one is DIP (Dual-in-line packaging). SMD is the latest technology and mostly used for indoor environment with high resolution and high pixel pitches. The density of DIP categories is basically low. So, it’s unable to create high resolutions, mostly for outdoor display.
DIP Technology | SMD Technology |
Weatherproof | Wide-viewing angle |
Extremely bright | No colour shift at extreme viewing angles |
Great for longer viewing distance | Smooth colour from a short distance |
The pixel pitches (dot pitches) are a very important part of the LED display. The distance between two pixels in an LED display is known as the pixel pitch. The pixel pitch of the LED display is the deciding factor as to where you want to install the LED and of what resolution does the screen have to be.
Pixel pitch is always calculated in millimetre and the viewing distance. For example- if it is an indoor LED display and the viewing distance is 1.5 meter from the screen, then your pixel pitch would be –
1.5-meter (Viewing distance) = 1.5-millimeter (1.5mm) distance between each LED cluster.
Another example is if it is a P4 LED video wall, that means the viewing distance is 4 meters and the distance between two pixels is 4 millimetres. Same for p6 LED wall, P10. Most outdoor display pixel pitches are p4, P6, P8, p10.
Resolution is totally responsible for the colour, quality of the display. The deciding factor of the screen resolution is pixel pitches, the frame of LED, and the optimal viewing distance. The resolution of the screen is one of the most deciding factors for the price of the LED display.
The resolution of the screen is dependent on your viewing distance and the size of the displays. You can calculate your screen resolution with a simple formula, suppose you are going to buy a P2.5 LED display & the size of the screen is 10 m * 5 m.
Then the calculation is,
for resolution calculation first, convert your meter in millimetre and divide with pixel pitches.
Resolution = size of the screen in mm/ pixel pitches
10 meters = 10000 millimetres
5 meters = 5000 millimetres
Pixel pitch = 2.5mm
Therefore,
Resolution = 10000/2.5 = 4000, 5000/2.5 = 2000
The Resolution of your screen will be 4000 * 2000.
Some additional factors which should be taken into consideration while installing the LED display are space (where will it be installed) and the support structure (LED displays need support like the wall or pole).
As an advertiser, a combination of hardware and software will be required while putting up an LED display for advertising. (hardware is the body or the raw parts of the LED and software being the mind or working of the LED).
The most famous video player control software for LED displays are Nova studio and LED studio.
As an advertiser when you are buying an LED displays for advertisement, the quality of the product is important for return on investment. India has its own regulatory agency for quality control, guarantee, safety and reliability of products known as BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards). Verify BIS certification for the LED display to ensure the quality control of products. If the supplied products are not BIS certified, maybe then there will be a compromise in the quality, safety etc.
Always choose an LED that uses DC (direct current) for smooth running. The government supplies AC (Alternate Current) to consumers for displays. An adapter is required to convert alternate current to direct current. The power calculation of LED display is in watts/Square meter. The standard size of power consumption per square meter is 750 wats / sq. m.
The Simple formula using for power consumption calculation in LED wall screen is like this –
The area of the screen: 10 m * 8m = 80 Sq. m
Wattage calculation: 80 Sq. m * 750 = 60000 watt
The advertising industry is known for the world’s most competitive industry where you can survive with only quality, adaptability of new technology, creatives and engagement. As an advertiser, when you are launching ad campaigns for your client you can’t compromise on the quality of the medium where you are going to run your complete campaign.
So, when you are going to buy LED displays for advertising purpose, the services and maintenance are equally important.
Ask your supplier about the service delivery for your products. Know your supplier’s past services background if possible. How Frequent they start your display and what type of accessories replacement is included in the services. The location of the service centre shows how frequent they troubleshoot your problems. Here are some crucial factors that need to be considered in your support service agreement-

Worldwide commodity products are divided into a category based on prices which are also known as HSN code. HSN code decides which product falls under which category according to the price range.
The LED wall tax calculation in India is– 28 % tax + LED Panel Prices
So, when you are buying an LED display check HSN Code. Because, if your suppliers are hiding taxes, or manipulating HSN Code to save customs duties for relative products they are violating the rule and hefty penalties will have to be paid.
