When our team connects with clients and our channel partners, we go to great lengths to talk about our LED display’s performance, its quality and its long life. The most commonly acknowledged factors are:
These factors are surely important but one factor that needs to be kept in mind is to ensure you have a long-term clarity on your investment. It’s highly possible to lose sight of ROI when it comes to achieving a good visual experience. However, the visual experience is secondary to understanding what you’re purchasing and how long you expect the screen to perform optimally.
Brightness is the most important parameter to ascertain the performance and quality of an LED display. A long-lasting brightness indicates that the screen is of high quality. A low-quality screen will have the brightness decay in a year or two, and the visual experience will be nowhere as was at the time of installation.
Let’s drill deeper.
So, you have decided to purchase an LED display to achieve a better visual experience as compared to when you have an LCD panel or projector display. Great!
Now, the next step is to avoid falling into the trap of being pennywise pound foolish. Of course, you have a budget to pay attention to, however, don’t let your budget ruin the purpose of going for an LED display. Even before the budget, comes the part where you understand a few basics:
You can get a very bright LED display within any budget. However, when you install this LED and observe its performance – you will see the real challenge. So, don’t just fall for a high brightness display. What you need is a long-lasting high brightness display.
A cheaply manufactured LED display that is made up of low-grade components and can also throw blinding levels of brightness – initially. Focus on the word ‘initially’. As the months pass you will observe that the brightness is gradually decreasing. I am still not counting the endless issues with lamps and other electrical faults that are a part of the experience of a cheap quality LED display to purchase.
You can get the LED screen tested, serviced, and even refurbished. But the brightness will keep decaying. So, with time, the picture quality of your LED screen goes for a toss. This process of dimming brightness is called Decay Rate.
Imagine spending weeks figuring out which LED will work for you and then choosing the cheapest one, only to see it decay over 12-24 months. And then, you are back to square one. Now, that’s a frustration that you will surely want to avoid.
For cheaper LED displays, the decay rates are high. So, your display starts losing its brilliance quickly. Of course, every LED display will eventually lose its brightness because of wear & tear. But, the difference is the rate at which this happens. Poorer displays will have an accelerated Decay Rate that would mean more costs out of your pocket for repairs, maintenance, and replacements in less than 24 months.
Remember when we dismissed the top three factors commonly prioritized by LED display buyers? Let’s pull that bag out again. Of course, connectivity is a nice-to-have feature. However, what you need above and beyond connectivity is adaptability.
Many LED display units offer connectivity that lets you manually control the LED display brightness levels. But, manual processes mean you have to allocate more people hours just getting the right level of brightness. This way, whatever operating costs you should save with adjustable brightness are thrown off the window with the added cost of manually controlling the display.
So, what can be a better alternative? Same feature, with better automation. The LED display unit should be able to adjust the brightness levels based on the availability of natural light.
So, your message is delivered, power consumption is levelled throughout the day, and even the Decay Rate for the LED is slowed. Wow, what else can one ask for? Despite understanding this need, only a couple of manufacturers like Xtreme Media innovate and offer these solutions.
Cheap LED displays have just one advantage – they are cheap!
So, if the lowest possible price is the only factor influencing your decision-making process, then you need to rethink.
However, if you care about the quality and ROI of your investment then you need to look beyond just the costs. Purchase cost is surely an important factor, but you should also care about the performance and longevity of the screen because these are the factors that will deliver the ROI.
It is highly likely that you are also in the crowd which is ready to purchase at a lower cost without thinking of long-term implications. This is certainly not your fault. There is a dearth of awareness around LED displays in the market and only a handful of OEMs try to focus of making the customers aware of the risks involved in purchasing cheap and low-quality displays.
Asking tough questions to your display OEM is important.
A possible response for this can be – your LED display vendor has superb manufacturing efficiencies or innovative product design capabilities that help it cut costs. Any other answer or possible deferral to respond generally means only one thing – the underlying components are cheap, so the LED display is cheap. A good quality display comes with some extra costs compared to low-cost display OEMs.
Generally, LED display vendors do not manufacture their own LED lamps.
If your LED display vendor is sourcing lamps locally, there is a good chance that they will have a high Decay Rate. This would eventually need to higher operating costs for LED displays and negative ROI for your P&L.
The chip size of the LED lamp plays an important role in deciding the brightness intensity of a display. The larger the chip size higher the brightness and brilliance. You should compare the chip size of the lamp of various brands to assess the brightness levels.
If you have been reading carefully, you might have noticed that we touched upon the competitive edge you can have in the AV industry if you focus on ROI instead of affordable LED screens. Here is how you can do it – use Xtreme Media’s display solutions.
Ten years ago, we worked with the Bombay Stock Exchange to install the iconic LED display unit, which powers India’s most active public market. There was no room for error, and the BSE team targeted positive ROI over the entire lifetime of the display unit.
Our team installed the LED display unit seamlessly and garnered fundamental insights into what media operators, businesses, and other LED display buyers are looking for. Then, we perfected our entire range of displays using these very insights.
Here is what Xtreme Media delivers:
Automated brightness adjustment is great. But – what if you want more?
Vigilant technology, which is our proprietary technology, delivers value beyond automation. It takes care of voltage surge, overcurrent, short-circuits alerts, earth leakage, fault protection, and overheating. You can switch the display on and off remotely. Phew! that’s a relief.
We make sure your LED display delivers consistent performance. On top of that, Vigilant ensures that your display unit is safeguarded against the most common and unforeseeable risks. So get the positive ROI and protect against the downside.
It also provides a remote monitoring system. So, if you want to take things under your control, you can remotely monitor the performance of your LED displays to make necessary adjustments.
We use LED lamps manufactured by NationStar, one of the leading LED lamp manufacturers in Asia. This way, our LEDs are of very high quality and are 4x bigger than what is offered by other LED OEMs.
Larger lamps deliver higher brightness levels and better picture quality. If you have any outdoor LED display units, this factor can singlehandedly grow the value of your media inventory.
Every LED display faces one or the other operating issue during its usable life. No amount of engineering excellence can eliminate these issues. But, you can exponentially reduce the cost incurred due to these issues if you foresee or diagnose them early enough.
Our R&D team has engineered a system called Screen Health. Using this solution, you can monitor the performance of your LEDs on a more granular scale. In addition, since you are looking at the smaller issues before they turn into bigger issues, you are proactively mitigating repair costs.
To top it off – Xtreme Media LED displays have a usable life of up to 10 years and that’s why we offer the world’s first and only 7-year warranty.
